Robot Family Chicken Guy: It's a Trap Episode III - Seth Green hints at war on Daily Show
When Seth Green strolled onto the stage on last night's Daily Show with Jon Stewart, it became clear that we are headed for some serious Star Wars battle. Amidst some hype about the new Family Guy Star Wars episode coming out... Dec 21st.... we may have forgotten or overlooked that Seth Green and the evil Robot Chicken mad scientists of stopmotion were slated to release their own latest masterpiece - Episode 3 -- at the same time! Both are vying for the Christmas season love of the legions of Star Wars fans I guess. Robot Chicken edging the competition with a dec 19th air date -- of course, contributing to our hype about the Family Guy one is the leak that appeared on the net last week.
Seth and Jon Stewart talked mostly about how the Star Wars Robot Chicken came about and how Lucasfilm had contacted them initally. Funny moments included Stewart asking how they felt being asked to visit the Lucas Ranch, not knowing really if they were in trouble for spoofing Star Wars without permission. "Yeah, we thought maybe at any second that we'd be thrown into a Rancor pit" -- to which Jon Stewart remarked after laughing, "we are losing our audience by the second..talking about Rancor pits etc"..haha
Anyways -- rest assured, being massive massive fans of both epic Star Wars spoof trilogies, we can expect more great laughs and stuff to corrupt our memories of the actual movies.

A is for Ackbar, but is T for Trap?
From the "I can't believe I didn't think of this first department" some dude (and lucky lady!) discover they're going to have a kid. Since they couldn't paint a nursery, they came up with the idea of self-made posters, and since they're both big Star Wars nerds (hey, who isn't?) they did up a baby alphabet with Star Wars Babies, a muppety spin-off.

Hello, My Name is... - 250 Introductions
250 clips of people, groups, things etc... all introducing themselves. Wacky.
Interesting notion about this is that it's made up of tons of clips from movies, all which surely are sourced from downloads on the net. This sort of video and the others like it around lately with tons of clips compiled together (Don Draper says What?) wouldn't be possible without illegal downloads/rips. And yet, in some way, they promote the product or contribute to fandom.

Double Down Take Down Rewarded!
Received an envelope from what I guessed was KFC Canada today -- inside was a little something for the video I made about our Double Down Take Down lunch antics at the office. Ages ago now, somewhere around the height of the DD craze (awhile after our actual DD Day), KFC posted they wanted to see the best Canadian Double Down videos. Didn't think much of it initially, but at the last second, decided what the heck, and submitted my video. I jokingly asked them how many Canadian vids there could possibly be, as I'd only seen one or two floating around.
Anyways, sure enough, this finally showed up (I did wonder if it got eaten in the post):
Pretty cool. Nice reward for a fun video project. Our arteries earned it! haha..etc..
Best part is I just realized the g/c is good for TACO BELL as well, ohh yesss.

Cookie Monster: "I don't know how they got there.. Derek was in here earlier.."
Don't know why we didn't post this before, it's awesome. Cookie Monster in rehab.
If we did post it, I couldn't find it. Maybe because F*x will probably get it taken down in time. Funny Cookie Monster stuff anyways. With his impending adult-persona superstardom (see SNL audition), don't you think this is what'll be next? haha

Cookie Monster SNL Audition tape - Sesame Street
Continuing on the Sesame Street kick...
This is pretty crazy. I think they're having a bit too much fun over at Disney, uhh, er, I mean Sesame Street. This is basically The Muppet Show, or the same premise/realm, but that was better.

Nonetheless, pretty funny and flattering homage to SNL. As on his other 'real life' appearances I've seen on The Colbert Report, and Cake Boss to name a few, Cookie Monster is pretty funny when not doing children's tv.... in a kind of Ed The Sock way (maybe he needs a cigar!).

Technically, it's ALL colours! Whites-only? Hmmmm..... I see shades of supremacy here; watch out Toronto Zoo, you don't know what a can of whup-boiled potatoes/snow peas you are messing with here!
What the heck? It's sold out? Well, I guess they only make so many whitey crayons... This is either a funny in-joke or some cruel, child-hater slipped one past the boys in marketing.

There's A Soldier In All Of Us - Call of Duty: Black Ops ad
This Call of Duty Black Ops ad came out ahead of the game's release a few weeks ago, you might have seen it doing the rounds on the net and on tv.
It has to be one of the best gaming commercials ever. Just on the live-action production value and the way it conveys the notion of the game and gamers.
Maybe no memorable song like that epic Gears of War one with the Donnie Darko song...but...

Remember, remember the Fifth of November - Speaking of Natalie Portman
It's Guy Fawkes Day. 5th of November.
Speaking of Natalie Portman, her SNL filmography is actually pretty good. Here's a wacky lost gem, "My Name is Fred".
Natalie Portman? You may remember her from such films as Star Wars. This SNL opening monologue from who knows when has some geek fans asking questions like the modern day WoW/Blizzcon/red shirt kid.

Video: Double Down Take Down Lunch Antics (DD Day)
A plan was hatched for a serious KFC Double Down Take Down by a bunch of us at the office on a friday. Adventures, hilarity, and randomness ensued. Here's a compilation of what I captured from the 'event'. WARNING: May not be for the faint of heart. Or the hungry.
See more of the pics and the cryptic, but informative story here: Lunch Adventures: DD Day Hats off to all involved for the successful execution,
and surviving.
Forget the double down...
We need to get a petition started to get these other artery clogging treats into Canada ASAP. #9 McLobster Roll? Seriously, where the fuck do I find one of these in Canada? Why does Japan have all the weird stuff and tasty food?!

Lunch Adventures: DD day
The countdown started when we read the news. October 18th circled on our calendars. The day the KFC Double Down came to Canada. No, we did not line up to sample yet-another-fine-cuisine brought to us courtesy of our neighbors to the south. No. We decided this event was better suited for a Friday ... when little work would get done anyways.
The Road Trip
What can I say? Charged with the duty to safely transport our lunches back to the office (oh yeah and the passengers too) I cursed every car in my way. Get the fuckouttamyway! I'm on a mission! Plus I'm hungry! What can I say? I turn into my evil twin when I get behind the wheel.
Parking was a minor inconvenience and after a stop off at Best Buy we were in line to order the sodium overdosed treat. 4 combos to go. Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew (seriously? who drinks that?) and 2 Pepsis. $6.99 for the "sandwich" and $8.99 for the combo. Damn, this had better be one good lunch. Popcorn chicken and the Taco Bell Crunchwrap tempted us as side orders but we came to our senses.
The trip back was marred by the voice of a 40s gangster guy cross mixed with Chief Wiggum. Captain who? Why is the bag so greasy? And what's that about the seat being wet?
The Main Event
Arranged in a pleasing manner for the photo op, the victims quickly grabbed their bag and dove into the Double Down. "What? There's no bread?!" "This isn't a regular piece of chicken" "Hmm, not bad" "Om nom nom!" "OMG look at the grease" "Mountain Dew?! Who drinks Mountain Dew?!" "Ugh, these fries are terrible"
Thoughts: tasty. The chicken, the bacon, and the sauce work together to produce a magical party in your mouth to which all the farm animals are invited. The cheese had some mixed reactions but the overall consensus was that the cheese had no flavor. The sodium issue was noticeable for one of our victims but generally it was considered be "saltier" than other comparable fast food dining options.
The Aftermath
Nobody dialed 9-1-1. Nobody required CPR. I'd have to say the KFC Double Down is something you should try, assuming you are a reasonably healthy individual. This isn't another Whopper or Big Mac, this is an entirely different food experience. Gluttonous, unhealthy, salty, and a "chickeny-bacon-goodness". That being said I wouldn't let any kids eat an entire one of these. As well I certainly would not add this to my regular eating routine.
