Celebrity Voices Night Before Christmas

I know we're more than a day out to Christmas here, but..

This guy Jim Meskimen sure has an arsenal of voices -- not quite sure some of them are spot on, but we do love a  celebrity voice impression. Festive.

Nice job Andrew. Inspired work. You're pretty handy with a lightsaber, uhh, I mean, Swiss Army knife.

Jedi Academy Begins Training Squirrels

In light of all the younglings being killed off (too soon?), the Jedi High Council approved a program to invite squirrels from across the galaxy to be Jedis-in-Training.

The Force is Strong with this Squirrel.  (The Cheese needed some more squirrel posts too.)

That's a pretty crazy squirrel there.  I guess that means the Squirrel Army around my house of native black squirrels are all Sith.

Make it Serta, Number One. Victoria Mattress Sale Goes Boldly

Floating around, took a while to get off my wwl list. If only we knew someone in BC, maybe someone with a new Bell-branded Samsung Galaxy Nexus, a Galaxy far, far away from the original. You know, the Next Generation of Android-Data-capable phones who could take our mattress dreams and make them so.

Angry Birds Movie Trailer Guy Ritchie-style

Angry Birds movie trailer? sure ok, we like Angry Birds.

In a Guy Ritchie-style? Nice!

With hot 'angry chicks' replacing the angry birds?  Wow, you had me at Guy Ritchie-style, but that's icing on the cake! Angry 'Birds' indeed. Brilliant. Top one. Sorted.

The Electric Cello Star Wars Fan Vid

Just wow. C'mon, everybody has covered this on pretty much every type of musical and non-musical instrument or weapon of mass destruction imaginable. But SPOILER: Vader's solo in the middle is awesome.

Who's Steve Buscemi?

For years a longstanding question of mine keeps coming up - Who's Steve Buscemi?  The name rings a bell, and it should, he's been in enough things -- but I could never put a face to it.  Yes yes, despite Cheese colleagues here telling me he's pretty 'unique' looking....."Steve Buscemi-looking" doesn't really help.

But after all this time, I think I finally started to remember what he looked like and who he is.  And good timing too, as a few videos popped up recently that will cement the memory in my cerebral cortex. Check out the vids after the jump.

Love Actually Keira, Tell Your Smug Boyfriend It's Carol Singers

Some advent (or 'vidvent' as they're calling it) randomness and fun.  Do like a good Love Actually/Hugh Grant/About A Boy/Richard Curtis whatever film.  Keira Knightly gets a Christmas message in this Love Actually spoof, great.

There are more on http://vidvent.tumblr.com/ probably worth checking.

Youtube Suggestion Epic Find - Milky the Marvelous Milking Cow

I don't even, wha? WTF did I just watch? And why do I want this so bad now? Adding all the things! to my Favourites for the XMBC plugin has resulted in some "interesting" Youtube suggestions, and gives me a real creepy overview of what Google thinks I like. Sadly, the mighty G is proving pretty good at predicting I like awful things.

Big Bang Theory x Simpsons

Surprised this didn't come across our radar ages ago, but check out this drawing of the cast from Big Bang Theory - Simpsonized! I was unable to find the original source as it may be like over a year old!

BBT Simpsons couch style

Of course, no post about some characters being Simpsonized can be complete without some work from the original master, Springfield Punx.  He's been on the case recently too. Nice little desktop wallpaper work.  I kind of prefer the less-detailed uncredited one from above as it's a bit more true to the Simpsons tv artwork. Fun/worlds-colliding/mashup stuff anyways!

Kina Grannis x Jelly Belly - Secret Crazy Stop Motion

288,000 jellybeans and 2 years of work in this stop motion project.  Secret Crazy Project indeed.
Impressive nonetheless.

Always a fan of stop motion escapades here at YC.  I hope Jelly Belly buys the rights to this song or something. At least they acknowledged this ultimate work. heh.
The Making Of/Behind the Scenes video is pretty interesting too.

Dog That Looks Like Chewbacca

This pic of a dog that looks like Chewbacca is pretty well known though I have no idea who the owner is etc.  Chewbacca dog has been surfacing the past few years at halloween -- but this year's super reblogged pic has one modification: a Chewie ammo belt!  Good stuff.

Michael Winslow of Police Academy fame covers Led Zeppelin on Norwegian talk show

So, Michael Winslow, the "sound-effect guy" from the Police Academy movies is still around, and apparently big in Norway? Who knew?!?!

Anyway, nothing much needs to be said other than my Heath Ledger impression is like totally lame after seeing this.

Siri-ously.

But my Princess Bride clergyman impression... that still rocks.

Harrison Ford Playing Uncharted 3 in Japanese Commercial

So Indiana Jones playing as Nathan Drake? And liking it?????? Old fuddy-duddy Ford actually likes a video game???? I'm surprised he wasn't telling those Sony boys to stay off his lawn, and the dozing in his chair by the fire. On a positive note, the John Williams score is now playing in my head and I will be digging out a fedora and bullwhip as soon I get home. Watch out Maggie! via: Topless Robot

Bad Lip Reading

Just when you thought the hardcore YouTubers couldn't come up with something new to do with audio/video mashups (see for example, Buffalaxing, etc) - check out Bad Lip Reading (BLR).

Recent political-themed work on Mitt Romney (below) and Michelle Bachmann are Comedy Central gold, while some older musical ones present equally wacky dubbing trickery.

Maybe a bit on the silly tip, but the production values are there.  One comment was that the sad thing about this is that it's actually really *good* lip reading.  haha.  Not sure how any of these didn't come up on the Cheese radar!

Hello, Computer: Scotty uses Apple iPhone Siri Voice Assistant

I know some of you out there had to be thinking of this when Apple announced voice assistant/recognition technology "Siri" in the new iPhone 4S today.
Hello, computer: Scotty talking into mouse in 1986 Star Trek IV.
Poor old James Doohan.  Of course, pretty sure the computer in the scene there was a Mac as well (containing engineering drawings for transparent aluminum no doubt).  If you wanna talk spacetime continuum, you can mull over how Apple is releasing this 24 years almost right on from when they 'envisioned' it as a Knowledge Navigator in 1987. 1987? What, like, after they saw Scotty talk into the mouse and marveled at the good idea?  I'll just leave it at that.

SNL Screen Tests returned on Saturday with a Top Gun 25th Anniversary dvd edition.  Bill Hader. Alan Alda. The magic all over again. Along with some other new impressions. Gold.

Skywalker Beer

Hadn't seen this one before, but think it's great.  That beer that Mark, I mean, Luke, drank was the cause of a number of X-Wing mishaps shortly thereafter. R2 has the pics.
Of course the big question after watching this is what kind of beer does Luke Skywalker drink?  Is it a Rebel Alliance microbrew or some sort of Imperial standard.  Won't get into it, but there's much discussion about this in the usual circles of course.

Tron Lightcycle Brought to Life by Custom Chopper Creators

Parker Brothers Choppers out of Florida shown here driving around town in a authentic lightcycle motorcycle creation.  Looks great! Street-legal obviously.  More interestingly, it's electric.  Other than being a bit uncomfortable, they've done a pretty darn good job recreating the body and effects.  The driver just needs to strap on a pair of Nike MAGs.

In other futuristic road vehicle news, a new BMW concept ad is starting to get some heavy tv play -- can't find it online yet (annoying) but it's something like this recent Innovations one. Definitely a Tron: Legacy air about it.

The Okuda Scale of warp factors (see Warp drive)
News out of CERN in Switzerland was reported earlier that a test in which some neutrinos were fired from deep in the ground up towards a lab on the surface - showed up earlier than when they left. A 'crazy result' according to them.

Star Wars Stop-Motion: Probably better than I could do

ISS Space Station orbit timelapse

This timelapse taken from the front of the ISS (that's International Space Station) is pretty c00l.  It's amazing what can be seen from way up there -- at first I thought it was an overlaid 'night lights' image on the ground.  Visible targets include Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, the various California cities, Texas, Mexico, and a bunch of stuff further down in South America. NASA and space in general can use any positive PR it can get.  I guess this is what it looks like when you're flying around the Earth in reverse to turn back time (Superman)

Star Wars Episodes 1-3 Silhouette Posters Olly Moss style

Just saw these now but I think they were done shortly after the first Moss ones appeared.  This guy Zenithuk did 3 posters in the style of Olly Moss' original trilogy ones.  Olly could have beaten him to it from the get go by doing the whole saga, but original trilogy takes priority (and interest) over the prequels of course.   Alas, it's still timely for the whole Star Wars blu-ray release.

Darth Vader "Nooo!" in Classic Movies: Nothing is Safe from George Lucas

After the inevitable uproar over forthcoming Star Wars blu-ray edits to the classic movies, it was probably only a matter of time before this appeared.  We even discussed briefly a similar idea (YouTube Gold idea #457).  I am of course talking about the dubbing of the Darth Vader "Nooo!" exclamation over the end of Return of the Jedi.  The fact that the sound clip is being re-used in the new blu-ray edit means surely it could be used elsewhere!  Even classic movies are not safe from George Lucas.

McFly 2015 Project must be crying right now - Nike Back to the Future shoes are real

mcfly2015.com - Did they make it happen?

I bet the guys from the McFly2015.com campaign from back in 2007-2008 are crying right now. Tears of joy of course.  Why?  Because The Shoes are real.  There was a campaign/petition back a few years ago started by the Maloof brothers (out of Montreal??).  Don't know where that went, nor what happened to them, but today Nike came through in realizing their dream.  Flurry of activity on the net after a mysterious video showing an animation of a room of shelves of the shoes appeared on YouTube.

mcfly2015.com - home of the McFly 2015 Project, circa 2007 (pulled out of archive.org)

And all the sneaker freaks out there? A tear and some drool too no doubt.  The ultimate retro/sought after/dreamt about shoe item of all time probably?

Nike MAG shoe - aka the McFly 2015 from Back to the Future II. What a time to be alive.

NiceKicks.com has been on top of it all day and has some good pics and previews of Mr. Michael J. Fox unveiling the shoe on Letterman later tonight. http://www.nicekicks.com/2011/09/nike-air-mag-officially-unveiled/  An auction and tons of proceeds to his Parkinson's foundation reported.  That's great.  What's next? Mattel and the hoverboard most would say.  It's not even 2015 yet.

Maverick is Real - Tom "Cole Trickle" Cruise in a Red Bull F1

Cole TricklePete "Maverick" Mitchell
Red Bull invited Tom Cruise to take a break from production of his new movie, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, to pilot the Red Bull Racing F1 car through Southern California's 2.5-mile (4km) Willow Springs circuit.

He reached a top speed of 181 mph (291 km/h) - just 4 mph off the top speed of his instructor and 13-time Grand Prix winner, David Coulthard.

After all these years, with all the craziness of Hollywood etc, Tom Cruise still owns the aviators/long hair/car & plane thing hands down.  Legend.

Doc Brown's Doing a Great Job, in Argentina - Christopher Lloyd ad

Christopher Lloyd, auditioning for a role in an Argentinian commercial:
"Great to be here Señor Spielbergo!
So what's this movie about anyways?
A store in the future?
Wow, this is real wild movie you're making here.
I want in."

“¡Ay, ay, ay, no es bueno!”

It's almost inconceivable that Christopher Lloyd would reprise his role, for a commercial, but oh well...it's one of those hollywood-star-does-foreign-ad-we-never-see things, except that's no longer true thanks to YouTube.  Great, Doc - You're Doing A Great Job, Señor Doc.

Not a Recovery Song, a Diabetes Research Song????!?!?!?!?!?

Yo listen up here's a story,
About a little mouse that lives in a lab cage
And all day and all night and everything he sees
Is just blue like him inside and outside
Blue is his house with a blue little wheel-o
And a blue water bottle
And everything is blue for him and hisself
And everybody around
Cos his ears get all glowy from all of the gluco!

Glow Blue! da ba dee da ba die!!!

They feed me sugar through a big IV
Blue is the colour, when they test my A1C
Blue is my blood, and all my droppings, too
I get shakes and sweats, water goes right through
Blue are the other mice that sit around
Blue like my ear-inserts, they test day and night
Blue are the squeaks I make and what I think.
Blue are the probes they put in me.

Glow Blue! da ba dee da ba die!!!
da bee da dee do ba da dee da bee dee doo!

Plasticine Tatooine Star Wars second string stories

"Plasticine Tatooine gives those lesser-known characters a chance to air their grievances and to lift the lid on life in the Star Wars second string"

Captain America: Canada Variant by Dale Eaglesham. 'Eaglesham' seems fitting
As soon to be seen at Canada's Fan Expo 2011 - a Canada themed variant of a Captain America comic cover.  Seems like what they're really giving out is a bunch of plastic Canada shields.... isn't that the old American traveller trick of putting a Canada flag patch on your backpack so foreigners don't beat the crap out of you? haha  I'm not advocating bringing anything like Captain Canuck back though. Robot Chicken Star Wars at Comic-Con 1976?

Action figure re-creation of the Star Wars table at Comic-Con 1976 by Stephen Hayford
As far as we can tell Seth Green and the Robot Chicken crew did not do any Delorean time travelling here.  This is a re-creation of the scene at Comic-Con in 1976 when Star Wars had its first booth/table.  As you well know, the movie had not even come out yet, so this is an interesting moment circa BSW (Before Star Wars),

Star Wars booth at Comic-Con 1976
Some of the details of the scenes are interesting.  "Super 8" in the background reminds of a certain JJ Abrams/Spielberg film only out now..ha. The woman - not in Slave Leia gear - might be the first female fan? haha

The Double Down Strikes Back - KFC Double Down Lunch Antics Episode II

With the KFC Double Down sandwich making a return to Canada, it was inevitable that our little lunch crew would end up seeking it out.  Finally, before its limited engagement ended, without much planning a quick mission was arranged and we set out to meet the challenge and conquer the Double Down once again.  The journey, consumption and antics that ensued are nothing short of epic.  Well, not really -- but definitely full of enough randomness, memes, and even Angry Birds -- all fueled by our fascination with the legendary sandwich, its "uniqueness", and frivolous gluttony.  Yeah, we know the fascination is borderline strange now...hehe

Of course the cameras were on full roll in hopes that some sort of Episode II could be fashioned after.  And here it is...

Flight of the Navigator NASA Hat for Final Flight of the Space Shuttle

A lot of net and media hype about the final space shuttle launch today (or this weekend if weather screws it up as usual..).  Cannot help but not have a good positive feeling about it, despite the accomplishments of the program and people's love for the whole thing as evidenced by the 750,000 watchers expected to head to Cape Canaveral to see the event.  Read one comment that said it brought a feeling of the 'end of hope for the future' and that is a good description of my sentiments too.

When stopping to think about what it means/feels like, the first thought that comes into my mind is the kid in Flight of the Navigator wearing a NASA hat.  NASA in that movie may have represented sort of the antagonist entity but it also represented this great forward thinking hub of innovation and a look to our collective dream of the future.  It was the 1980s etc etc. hehe

This picture is a good one for right now:
Feelings about the final Space Shuttle Launch - David from Flight of the Navigator in NASA cap
Okay, ranting/ downer post perhaps.  So here's a pic of none other than young Sarah Jessica Parker, also from Flight of the Navigator.  Yeah, that's right, SJP was in Flight of the Navigator. Lighten the mood a bit.
