In light of all the younglings being killed off (too soon?), the Jedi High Council approved a program to invite squirrels from across the galaxy to be Jedis-in-Training.

Who's Steve Buscemi?
For years a longstanding question of mine keeps coming up - Who's Steve Buscemi? The name rings a bell, and it should, he's been in enough things -- but I could never put a face to it. Yes yes, despite Cheese colleagues here telling me he's pretty 'unique' looking....."Steve Buscemi-looking" doesn't really help.
But after all this time, I think I finally started to remember what he looked like and who he is. And good timing too, as a few videos popped up recently that will cement the memory in my cerebral cortex. Check out the vids after the jump.

Big Bang Theory x Simpsons
Surprised this didn't come across our radar ages ago, but check out this drawing of the cast from Big Bang Theory - Simpsonized! I was unable to find the original source as it may be like over a year old!
Of course, no post about some characters being Simpsonized can be complete without some work from the original master, Springfield Punx. He's been on the case recently too. Nice little desktop wallpaper work. I kind of prefer the less-detailed uncredited one from above as it's a bit more true to the Simpsons tv artwork. Fun/worlds-colliding/mashup stuff anyways!

Hello, Computer: Scotty uses Apple iPhone Siri Voice Assistant
I know some of you out there had to be thinking of this when Apple announced voice assistant/recognition technology "Siri" in the new iPhone 4S today.
Poor old James Doohan. Of course, pretty sure the computer in the scene there was a Mac as well (containing engineering drawings for transparent aluminum no doubt). If you wanna talk spacetime continuum, you can mull over how Apple is releasing this 24 years almost right on from when they 'envisioned' it as a Knowledge Navigator in 1987. 1987? What, like, after they saw Scotty talk into the mouse and marveled at the good idea? I'll just leave it at that.

Skywalker Beer
Hadn't seen this one before, but think it's great. That beer that Mark, I mean, Luke, drank was the cause of a number of X-Wing mishaps shortly thereafter. R2 has the pics.
Of course the big question after watching this is what kind of beer does Luke Skywalker drink? Is it a Rebel Alliance microbrew or some sort of Imperial standard. Won't get into it, but there's much discussion about this in the usual circles of course.

Tron Lightcycle Brought to Life by Custom Chopper Creators
Parker Brothers Choppers out of Florida shown here driving around town in a authentic lightcycle motorcycle creation. Looks great! Street-legal obviously. More interestingly, it's electric. Other than being a bit uncomfortable, they've done a pretty darn good job recreating the body and effects. The driver just needs to strap on a pair of Nike MAGs.
In other futuristic road vehicle news, a new BMW concept ad is starting to get some heavy tv play -- can't find it online yet (annoying) but it's something like this recent Innovations one. Definitely a Tron: Legacy air about it.

ISS Space Station orbit timelapse
This timelapse taken from the front of the ISS (that's International Space Station) is pretty c00l. It's amazing what can be seen from way up there -- at first I thought it was an overlaid 'night lights' image on the ground. Visible targets include Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, the various California cities, Texas, Mexico, and a bunch of stuff further down in South America. Star Wars Episodes 1-3 Silhouette Posters Olly Moss style
Just saw these now but I think they were done shortly after the first Moss ones appeared. This guy Zenithuk did 3 posters in the style of Olly Moss' original trilogy ones. Olly could have beaten him to it from the get go by doing the whole saga, but original trilogy takes priority (and interest) over the prequels of course. Alas, it's still timely for the whole Star Wars blu-ray release.

Darth Vader "Nooo!" in Classic Movies: Nothing is Safe from George Lucas
After the inevitable uproar over forthcoming Star Wars blu-ray edits to the classic movies, it was probably only a matter of time before this appeared. We even discussed briefly a similar idea (YouTube Gold idea #457). I am of course talking about the dubbing of the Darth Vader "Nooo!" exclamation over the end of Return of the Jedi. The fact that the sound clip is being re-used in the new blu-ray edit means surely it could be used elsewhere! Even classic movies are not safe from George Lucas.

McFly 2015 Project must be crying right now - Nike Back to the Future shoes are real
mcfly2015.com - Did they make it happen? |
I bet the guys from the McFly2015.com campaign from back in 2007-2008 are crying right now. Tears of joy of course. Why? Because The Shoes are real. There was a campaign/petition back a few years ago started by the Maloof brothers (out of Montreal??). Don't know where that went, nor what happened to them, but today Nike came through in realizing their dream. Flurry of activity on the net after a mysterious video showing an animation of a room of shelves of the shoes appeared on YouTube.

Yo listen up here's a story,
About a little mouse that lives in a lab cage
And all day and all night and everything he sees
Is just blue like him inside and outside
Blue is his house with a blue little wheel-o
And a blue water bottle
And everything is blue for him and hisself
And everybody around
Cos his ears get all glowy from all of the gluco!
Glow Blue! da ba dee da ba die!!!
They feed me sugar through a big IV
Blue is the colour, when they test my A1C
Blue is my blood, and all my droppings, too
I get shakes and sweats, water goes right through
Blue are the other mice that sit around
Blue like my ear-inserts, they test day and night
Blue are the squeaks I make and what I think.
Blue are the probes they put in me.

The Double Down Strikes Back - KFC Double Down Lunch Antics Episode II
With the KFC Double Down sandwich making a return to Canada, it was inevitable that our little lunch crew would end up seeking it out. Finally, before its limited engagement ended, without much planning a quick mission was arranged and we set out to meet the challenge and conquer the Double Down once again. The journey, consumption and antics that ensued are nothing short of epic. Well, not really -- but definitely full of enough randomness, memes, and even Angry Birds -- all fueled by our fascination with the legendary sandwich, its "uniqueness", and frivolous gluttony. Yeah, we know the fascination is borderline strange now...hehe

Flight of the Navigator NASA Hat for Final Flight of the Space Shuttle
A lot of net and media hype about the final space shuttle launch today (or this weekend if weather screws it up as usual..). Cannot help but not have a good positive feeling about it, despite the accomplishments of the program and people's love for the whole thing as evidenced by the 750,000 watchers expected to head to Cape Canaveral to see the event. Read one comment that said it brought a feeling of the 'end of hope for the future' and that is a good description of my sentiments too.
When stopping to think about what it means/feels like, the first thought that comes into my mind is the kid in Flight of the Navigator wearing a NASA hat. NASA in that movie may have represented sort of the antagonist entity but it also represented this great forward thinking hub of innovation and a look to our collective dream of the future. It was the 1980s etc etc. hehe
This picture is a good one for right now:
Okay, ranting/ downer post perhaps. So here's a pic of none other than young Sarah Jessica Parker, also from Flight of the Navigator. Yeah, that's right, SJP was in Flight of the Navigator. Lighten the mood a bit.

Star Wars Art-Deco Poster Styling
This isn't new but there are some other similar art-deco posters around and these struck me as pretty neat. More notably, this one pictured here was one from Leonard's bedroom wall in a number of Big Bang Theory episodes! Random find. See the rest of the funky art-deco styled posters by M Kungl here

Greenpeace Rebel Scum use The Force to target Volkswagen
Just when you thought the Commercial Force couldn't get any wackier....
Greenpeace seems to have been inspired by VW's Superbowl ad but also has disdain for the car manufacturer. They do believe there is still good in Volkswagen though.
Campaign site for it is pretty elaborate too:
