iPartment x Big Bang Theory - Chinese sitcom scene comparison

A recent article focused on the fact that The Big Bang Theory actually has a decent following in China.  Understandably, the younger, more modern and connected generation has more than a few geeks in its ranks and is drawn to the US sitcom.

More interesting is that Chinese tv producers have taken notice and like all things, have actually built multiple homegrown shows that appear to borrow (steal/plagiarize) plot lines and ideas from BBT.  Particularly is one popular show called iPartment. (爱情公寓)

While the show is a bit more general about some twenty-somethings living in Shanghai, some very familiar character-types and scenes appear in the show.  Sure enough, found this handy comparison video by some Chinese video site user that shows BBT clips and iPartment ones.  Wacky as always, see if you can follow along.

Of course, Big Bang is no stranger to imitation. There was that other story about the duplicate show out of Belarus, The Theorists, that even Chuck Lorre commented on in one of his regular end of episode vanity cards.  Of course, in that case, when the actors found out that they were cast in a rip of BBT, they wanted nothing to do with it. haha

The Internet Is Coming - Final IT Crowd Episode

Nice folks over at Channel4 have made it watchable on YouTube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRkA8Pm4upw

Sad to see it go, but it had a good run.  We had some good laughs about stuff from it and in comparison these days, the geek levels remained high compared to Big Bang Theory which has drifted into mainstream 'relationship drama' territory.  Won't make any comment about the final ep other than it's length is a bit unusual for the regularly 22 minute show or whatever... not sure they knew how to expand it into an hour.  Enjoy nonetheless!

Cheers & thanks for the IT support, Roy, Moss and Jen.

Call Me Kaley - Full Version

What to say about this, watch the BBT cast do a flash mob on set.  Carly Rae Jepsen spoofs are well overdone now but hey, good times in Big Bang Theory land.

UPDATE 11/16/2012 17:27: Supposedly the cast actually performed a full choreographed skit but the notion of posting it online was making the copyright-sense of the CBS lawyers tingle because their counterparts over in Carly Rae Jepsen's camp might come calling(among others), so it wasn't posted.  But of course, by end of day today someone from the audience had surfaced that filmed the whole thing (a plus of a live studio audience) and posted it on their own! Voila:

Star Wars Detours animated series clips

After being under strict wraps for a long time, the formerly known as "Untitled Star Wars animated tv series" - now known as Star Wars Detours - was recently revealed to the world through a trailer and series of promo clips (watch the 6 clip playlist below).  The notable thing about it is that Star Wars uber-geeks and Robot Chicken masterminds Seth Green and friends are involved.  So what you get is an animated version of the Robot Chicken Star Wars specials sort of.  It's hard to knock as those specials are legend-ary.  Definitely some of the funniest, most rewatched and referenced humour around Yesterday's Cheese.  And on that note, it seems fitting that this post, our 500th, is on the Star Wars humour tip. Not only is it our most frequent post tag, but like I said, the Star Wars Robot Chicken episodes are easily some of our favorite stuff ever. Anyways, we'll see where Detours goes  - tagline for the show is "the other side of the stars, between the wars". It might end up pretty cheesy, but as far as Star Wars humour goes, should be pretty hard to screw up.

CBS Star Trek TNG Fan Sides Ad Posters Live Boldy

"Live Boldly. Love Your Fan Side." proclaims this ad poster series in the UK for CBS Action channel.  The specialty channel has be preparing a national campaign to promote Star Trek:The Next Generation (TNG) as one of its shows.  Attracting the nostalgic fans who may have dressed up as or envisioned themselves as Captain Picard, Geordi La Forge or Lt. Commander Data, the pics are kinda neat.

Robot Family Chicken Guy: It's a Trap Episode III - Seth Green hints at war on Daily Show

When Seth Green strolled onto the stage on last night's Daily Show with Jon Stewart, it became clear that we are headed for some serious Star Wars battle.  Amidst some hype about the new Family Guy Star Wars episode coming out... Dec 21st.... we may have forgotten or overlooked that Seth Green and the evil Robot Chicken mad scientists of stopmotion were slated to release their own latest masterpiece - Episode 3 -- at the same time!  Both are vying for the Christmas season love of the legions of Star Wars fans I guess.  Robot Chicken edging the competition with a dec 19th air date -- of course, contributing to our hype about the Family Guy one is the leak that appeared on the net last week.

Seth Green guest on The Daily Show 7 Dec 2010
Seth and Jon Stewart talked mostly about how the Star Wars Robot Chicken came about and how Lucasfilm had contacted them initally.  Funny moments included Stewart asking how they felt being asked to visit the Lucas Ranch, not knowing really if they were in trouble for spoofing Star Wars without permission.  "Yeah, we thought maybe at any second that we'd be thrown into a Rancor pit" -- to which Jon Stewart remarked after laughing, "we are losing our audience by the second..talking about Rancor pits etc"..haha

Anyways -- rest assured, being massive massive fans of both epic Star Wars spoof trilogies, we can expect more great laughs and stuff to corrupt our memories of the actual movies.
